WHAT HAVE BEEN ACCOMPLISHED:
JMEC has been structural engineer for the seismic analysis and preliminary retrofit design of various state buildings and hospitals in accordance with NEHRP guidelines and Title 24 Part 2 of CBC.
Work included thorough existing building review, seismic vulnerability study, and developed retrofit concepts.
The two larger size buildings include a 2-story 30,505 SF Veterans Home of California in Yountville, and a 2-story 27,621 SF Napa State Hospital in Napa. Both were constructed of reinforced concrete with non-ductile concrete walls/piers.
Typical retrofit measures included adding new shear walls and new foundations, widening and reconstructing expansion joints between buildings, and strengthening roof truss by adding steel bracing. Removed, replaced, or provided proper anchorage for falling hazards.
